Following Your Passions

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.
-Confucius

This quote is significant when it comes to deciding what ambition to follow because people nowadays, plan to pursue careers that pay a lot of money. Yeah, money can help you become financially stable in life, but money can’t make you happy.

Think about it. There can be the richest person on the planet with everything they have ever wanted: clothes, cars, a mansion, shoes, etc. and they could still be unhappy.

When I was in fifth grade, I had to sing the song “Can’t Buy Me Love” by The Beatles in choir. I didn’t really pay attention to the meaning when I was singing it. Now looking back, that song couldn’t have been more accurate!

Love and money have two separate values. Can you guess which one means more in life? It is most definitely not the one found in your wallet.

This all ties up to choosing a career. Don’t be a doctor if you hate being around sick people. Or a firefighter if you aren’t able to put the lives of others before your own. Do something you are strongly passionate about. Something that you wouldn’t mind doing every single day for the rest of your life. Wouldn’t you prefer a career that can almost pass as a hobby, anyway?

Since no one has the ability to tell you what career to pursue, they should have no say to your future. Avoid being misled by people who believe money is everything when it is truly not; because in the end, your own happiness is what truly counts.

You want to be able to look back and be proud of all that you achieved instead of hoping you had different values.

If you are currently in a situation where you don’t know which path to take, just follow your passion and it will lead a long way.

  1. I agree with what you said here, and this really applies to me as I try to choose a college major. Every time I debate what to major in, people make comments about which ones I’ll earn the most money from. But you’re right, that shouldn’t matter. It’s much more important to be happy.
